King calls for Everton star to be dropped by int'l team after what happened y'day

Bryan King would prefer to see Nick Pope or Dean Henderson start over Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for England.

The ex-Goodison scout believes both shot-stoppers would offer more to the Three Lions.

It comes after England were beaten 2-1 by Greece in the UEFA Nations League at Wembley on Thursday (10 October), with Pickford in particular having a night to forget.

And after watching his performance, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – can’t understand how the 30-year-old has played as many times for England as he has.

“These issues seem to continue for him,” King said.

“However, for some reason, we don’t have goalkeepers putting him under pressure for England. Pope and Henderson are both playing regularly in the Premier League.

“I think either of them would give more to England than Pickford would at this moment in time. I can’t believe he has almost played as many times as Gordon Banks. It shows we don’t have a good depth of keepers in this country.

“If Pickford had played in my time he’d have been lucky to get first-team football, let alone an England cap.”

Everton star Jordan Pickford to be dropped by England?

Pickford has been the Everton and England number one for many years now.

However, his performances for both club and country this season have left a lot to be desired. Sean Dyche is limited when it comes to goalkeepers at Goodison Park.

Therefore, it is unlikely that Pickford will be dropped by the Toffees, despite recent suggestions Dyche was keen to replace him (Alan Nixon via Patreon, 15 September).

However, some other talented English goalkeepers are playing their trade in the Premier League.

Pope and Henderson were both sat on the bench against Greece, watching on as Pickford struggled. As a result, Lee Carsley could decide to shake things up against Finland in the Nations League at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium on Sunday (13 October).
