King predicts Ange to axe Gray and start another star out of position in Forest v Tottenham

Archie Gray could drop to the bench when Tottenham travel to Nottingham Forest on Thursday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will be looking to respond to their 6-3 Premier League defeat against Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday [22 December], which left Gary Neville laughing at one player, when they travel to the City Ground on 26 December.

Ahead of the clash, Postecoglou has been handed a selection boost after sharing a positive injury update on Destiny Udogie, while Rodrigo Bentancur is also once again available for selection.

And ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested Udogie could start out of position against Forest.

“He doesn’t have many options to make changes,” King said.

“His two main defenders are out, the goalkeeper is out. As a result, that entire back five looks uncomfortable. Perhaps Udogie could start alongside Radu Drăgușin at centre-back? He’s a good size Udogie, he could certainly play in that position, as a left-sided centre-back.

“That would mean a back four of Pedro Porro, Udogie, Drăgușin and Djed Spence. This is going to be a difficult game against Forest. They have got real quality, and Chris Wood has proven a handful this season.”

Destiny Udogie to start at centre-back for Tottenham against Nottingham Forest?

Spurs were all over the place against Liverpool, with Jamie Redknapp labelling the defence a “mess”.

Therefore, Postecoglou will no doubt be keen to make changes at the back. However, with so many first-team players unavailable, the Australian might have to get creative.

As a result, Udogie could start at centre-back, which would allow Spence to keep his place, which is no more than the 24-year-old deserves after what he did to Mohamed Salah.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou will be sacked despite what a fan said recently.
