King stunned as Barcelona eye transfer swoop for unwanted Tottenham defender

Bryan King has backed Tottenham and FC Barcelona to agree a £20million deal for Sergio Reguilón.

The ex-Spurs scout doesn’t think the 27-year-old has a future in North London.

As reported by Sky Sports News’ Lyall Thomas via X (9 August), Barcelona have been making enquiries about Reguilón.

And according to Dharmesh Sheth (via Last Word on Spurs, 21 August), that is a move which could potentially happen before the transfer deadline.

Therefore, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has speculated what kind of figures might be involved.

“This certainly surprises me,” King said.

“It sounds like Reguilón’s agent has been very busy. Although, there again, he is a Spanish player and if FC Barcelona could get him for the right kind of fee it could make sense.

“I would think a deal could be agreed between the two clubs for around £20million, especially considering Oliver Skipp went for a similar fee.

“That would be a good deal for Reguilón. As long as Destiny Udogie is fit I can’t see him getting a game at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou.”

This would be a fantastic move for all parties involved.

It is clear that Reguilón is not in Postecoglou’s plans. Therefore, a transfer away this summer is an absolute must for the out-of-favour left-back.

And joining a club as prestigious as Barcelona who play their football in the UEFA Champions League wouldn’t exactly be a step down.

As for Tottenham, moving the player on would be another key step in the club’s rebuild under Postecoglou.

Therefore, they will be hoping a deal can be agreed before the transfer window slams shut.
