Mainoo received his senior England debut under Three Lions boss, Southgate, and made his first appearance as an England international came in the Three Lions’ 1-0 defeat to Brazil at Wembley.
Mainoo came off the bench and replaced Chelsea star Conor Gallagher in the international friendly match. The United midfielder made his first England start in the 2-2 draw against Belgium at Wembley just days later and impressed with his performance for the Three Lions.

After his first full game in a Three Lions jersey, Southgate hailed the youngster in his post-match press conference.
“Everything that we’ve seen with his club, he reproduced in an England shirt which isn’t always the case,” Southgate said after the 2-2 draw with Belgium at Wembley.
“He was very calm, receives the ball so well under pressure, strong, so we are a little bit more open playing that way but the benefits with the ball were clear to see.”

Mainoo’s mother is Abena Herold and his father is Felix Mainoo. Both of his parents are Ghanaian, which means that Mainoo is eligible to represent Ghana at senior level in his international career – however Mainoo as we know chose the country he grew up in.

Mainoo’s younger brother is Jordan Hames. According to The Times, Mainoo’s sibling is his half-brother. His brother was actually ‘famous’ before he was. Jordan was a contestant on the fifth series of ITV’s TV show Love Island.
