The 2024/25 summer transfer window has started in a busy fashion for Everton.

The Toffees were the first team to be burdened by the Premier League’s financial rules last season and were docked a total of eight points off their total by the end of the campaign.

With some fears still having existed over PSR before the June 30 deadline, there was always expected to be movement early in the window.

The Merseyside club have already been active this month and have sold youth prospect Lewis Dobbin this summer [Fabrizio Romano, 21 June] with a transfer for star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin also being called “one to watch” [David Ornstein, 25 June].

Tim Iroegbunam has arrived from Villa, while Jack Harrison has returned on loan from Leeds United but the fun is unlikely to stop just yet.

Indeed, one thing that now could happen is that Everton look to move on former Rangers full-back Nathan Patterson, especially if it is true the club are interested in signing Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, HITC [25 June].

What Aaron Wan-Bissaka could bring to Everton

Everton are already facing one defensive battle in the window, that being to keep Jarrad Branthwaite, who is coincidentally a reported target for United.

So, it isn’t really a surprise to see defenders starting to be linked with the blue half of Merseyside if the Wan-Bissaka link has legs it might not be the best news for Patterson.

Compared to Patterson, Wan-Bissaka had a similar role to the young Scotsman. The former Crystal Palace right-back played a total of 30 games, while Patterson only appeared in 26 across all competitions.

Patterson has struggled for form and fitness at times during his spell with the club, though at the age of 22 he still has time to develop and improve his game.

But Everton, if the finances allow it, might think they are better suited going for a player like Wan-Bissaka whose well-noted defensive skills would be surely appreciated by Sean Dyche.
