Kris Boyd lets rip at Rangers man after news he's seen today

Kris Boyd has blasted Rangers’ decision to promote Nils Koppen to his new role of technical director.

The Belgian has been director of football recruitment at Ibrox since December 2023 but the Gers announced on 19 November that he has been promoted into the new role.

However, Boyd has criticised the decision and questions whether Koppen has done enough for the Scottish Premiership club so far to be rewarded with this promotion.

Speaking on The Sun’s Go Ballistic show, the former Rangers man expressed his surprise at the move as he said: “Why would you give someone a promotion when you don’t have someone above them?

“I think you’ve got to earn the right to that promotion and there’s nothing to suggest that Nils Koppen has earned this.

“Right now, the fans only see what has come through the door and it’s not been good enough. It’s not been good enough.”

You can see the passion from Boyd as he criticises his former side’s decision-making in this instance and many fans will no doubt be wondering the same.

Rangers have framed this move as a positive one and say this is an appointment that has been made in preparation for the upcoming January transfer window.

However, as alluded to by Boyd, you have to consider whether Koppen has one enough so far to back up the club’s choice to increase his responsibilities and the general feeling seems to be that this is not the case.

Whilst it’s good to see Rangers trying to put the right things into place ahead of a big January, it does feel as though there has been a lack of thought behind this and it’s hard to see it having a positive impact at the Ibrox.
