Leeds United boss Daniel Farke insists contract talks with Junior Firpo and Sam Byram will take place in the future.
Firpo has become a key player for the Yorkshire club since joining from Barcelona in 2021, making 92 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and 14 assists.
Byram, meanwhile, joined Leeds ahead of the 2023/24 campaign and played almost 2,000 minutes in the Championship alone. This season. he’s been used more as a substitute but remains an important figure in Farke’s squad.
However, both players have entered the final year of their contracts, meaning that if a new deal isn’t agreed soon, they will be free to negotiate with other clubs in January.
Leeds boss Farke addresses Firpo and Byram contracts
Supporters will be keen to see both players tied down as quickly as possible.
Farke has admitted he hasn’t given too much thought to the futures of Firpo and Byram just yet but he does intend to address talks soon.
“If I’m honest, I haven’t thought about this scenario so far because it was such a difficult summer and we had to speak about other things. There will be the time when we speak about the future,” Farke said (via Football League World).
“You also know how much I really rate Junior and Sam, how important they are for us. Also from their personality.
“When we speak about Junior, especially also the last game against Burnley, after a long travel, he also played a really good game.
“I was pleased with this and he’s growing more and more, also into a leader role.
“He improves, also, his defensive skills. This is also what I like because he’s outstanding in this league in going forward, you all know this, but also to be able to improve further on his defending behaviour.
“Sam, versatile player, he’s not playing each and every game at the moment, due to competition in his position, but we’re all happy we have him. He can play different positions and is one of the most experienced players.
“We don’t have many players who are this age. It’s important.”
