Everton are set for a brighter future under The Friedkin Group but must do everything to avoid relegation first, according to Ian Darke.
The TV commentator, speaking exclusively to Goodison News, has reacted to the completion of the takeover by Dan Friedkin and his consortium.
Darke acknowledged the difficulties the Toffees still face on the pitch but is confident that under Sean Dyche, the team are a “mean machine” with enough in the tank for survival.
“I think better times are ahead for Everton. It certainly looks that way at least – with new owners who are presumably willing to invest in the squad to make them something more than the relegation fighters that they’ve been for the last few seasons,” he said.
“It’s now just a question of making sure they’re in the Premier League next season to enjoy the new stadium and the new owners. That’s not definite – they’re defending brilliantly in the main, but they haven’t scored in five of their last six games – it’s a continuing theme.
“But they’re starting to look like a Sean Dyche mean machine again.”
Everton begin new chapter under The Friedkin Group
Everton are already looking assertive as The Friedkin Group (TFG) complete their purchase of Farhad Moshiri’s controlling stake at Goodison Park.
Marc Watts – president of the consortium – will lead the board as Kevin Thelwell and Dyche will keep their respective roles at the club.
Dyche has a proven track record of keeping Everton afloat in the Premier League as the club recognise the need for stability with potentially huge ambitions to get off the ground next summer at Bramley-Moore Dock.
