Ruben Amorim looks set to potentially hand Leny Yoro his long-awaited competitive Man United debut on Sunday afternoon as one of two changes away at Ipswich Town.
The game at Portman Road on 24 November will be the new boss’ first in charge of the Red Devils after taking over at the start of the international break.
He will be looking to make a positive first impression, with hopes high that the Portuguese can be the man to finally get the Old Trafford club back on track since Erik ten Hag proved to be the latest to fall short.
That of course, means there will be plenty of intrigue on just how he sets up his side for his first game in charge.
It is believed Amorim used a 3-4-3 formation during his first Man United training session earlier this week (BBC Sport), so that is the system he is expected to use against Ipswich.
Leny Yoro could finally make his first Man United appearance
It has been a frustrating start to life at Old Trafford for Yoro, following his move from Lille in the summer.
Having broken his foot in pre-season, he is still waiting to make his competitive debut. However, he did take part in training under Amorim, on the right of a back-three.
The 19-year-old was then suddenly withdrawn from the squad for an Under 21s game earlier this week, further suggesting he could be lined up to play on Sunday instead.
Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are both doubts (Manchester Evening News), with the latter having withdrawn from international duty last week, after receiving treatment in the last game Man United played at Leicester before the break.
Mathijs de Ligt will therefore likely feature, while Luke Shaw could also make an appearance on the left of the back three.
The England international is another who has trained under Amorim this week, but who is yet to make an appearance all season due to injury.
In the wing-back roles, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui look to be the most suitable options of those available, in terms of their ability to do both the attacking and defensive work.
Central midfield could see Casemiro partnered with summer signing Manuel Ugarte, a player Amorim already knows well from their time in Portugal.
That could then lead to a more attacking role for Man United captain Bruno Fernandes, alongside Amad Diallo, with the latter also noticeably involved in training this week.
There have also been suggestions that Marcus Rashford could be set to lead the line upfront, following years as a regular winger, after Chris Sutton revealed he had heard rumours of a change in position for the Englishman [It’s All Kicking Off!].
Rasmus Hojllund by contrast did go away with Denmark, while Joshua Zirkzee has struggled to make an impact since his move in the summer.
As a result, that may actually make Rashford the most logical option to lead the line for Man United in Amorim’s crucial first game in charge.
