Leroy Sane has told Arsenal and Manchester United that his preference is to extend his contract with Bayern Munich.

The Germany international’s current deal with Bayern is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning that he could leave the club as a free agent next summer.

Both Arsenal and United have been keeping tabs on Sane’s contract situation, while reports in Germany have suggested that the former Manchester City winger may need to accept a wage reduction in order to remain at Bayern.

But Sane insists money will not be a driving factor behind his contract renewal at Bayern and says he is happy under Vincent Kompany.

‘I have confidence in myself, in the situation and also in my club. We are in a transparent and relaxed exchange,’ Sane told Sport Bild.

‘I feel really good, the talks with Vinni [Kompany], Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are very good and trusting. That’s why my thoughts are currently only on Bayern, we will see everything else in the next few weeks and months.

‘The topic [money] is not on my mind at all right now. And how much I earn is not my top priority. To be honest, I haven’t thought about it for a second.’

Speaking about his relationship with Kompany, Sane said: ‘We both actually know each other well. Under Vinni, we play a good offensive style of football. We have fun on the pitch under his leadership, that is important to me and of course plays a role in my decision.’

Despite not having already reached a new agreement with Bayern, Sane insists he will see out the season with the Bundesliga leaders.

‘I will definitely not sign for another club on January 1 or 2. I don’t need a quick decision,’ Sane said.

Asked about a possible return to the Premier League, Sane said: ‘I have a sympathy for the league, I still watch certain games on TV.

‘The attraction for me lies in the club where I can show my best performance, develop and win titles. I have that at Bayern. This is where I have my greatest challenge and goals.’
