John Wenham expects Cristian Romero to miss out for Tottenham in their next Premier League clash against Manchester City.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has called for other players at the club to step up when Ange Postecoglou’s side travel to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 23 November.
As reported by Gastón Edul via X (15 November), Romero will undergo tests after coming off at half-time in Argentina’s 2-1 World Cup qualifying defeat to Paraguay at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco (14 November).
Romero felt pain in his right foot and is at risk of missing Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Peru at La Bombonera on Tuesday (19 November).
Therefore, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think the defender is likely to feature for Spurs against City.
“As soon as Romero featured against Ipswich, he was always going to travel with Argentina,” Wenham said.
“That is how he is, he is incredibly passionate about his country. He is also well-received there, playing for Argentina is a massive thing for him.
“As long as he plays in the game before, he will never miss out on an international break. Unfortunately, it does mean we will probably be without him against Manchester City.
“However, we went to City last year with Ben Davies and Emerson Royal as centre-backs, and we didn’t lose the match. Other players just need to step up.”
Cristian Romero to miss out for Tottenham against Manchester City?
Romero was struggling with an injury ahead of the international break, and it appears as though he might have aggravated that injury.
Therefore, some supporters might be questioning why the 26-year-old was risked at all for Argentina. However, as Wenham pointed out, it would be incredibly difficult to convince Romero not to represent his country.
Although it looks as though Postecoglou could suffer as a result.
Should Romero miss out against City, Spurs’ chances of getting back to winning ways in Manchester will reduce drastically.
In other Tottenham news, the club are interested in signing a £50million-rated defender.
