John Wenham has speculated that Jonathan David would want at least £150,000-a-week to sign for Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the 24-year-old, who has long been linked with Tottenham, could be a useful addition for the club

As reported by Sport [10 December], Tottenham have made a “significant” financial offer to David, who is out of contract with Lille at the end of the season, with the striker not the only soon-to-be out-of-contract Lille player being targeted by the North London club.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks there will still be some significant costs attached to any transfer.

“David is a reliable goal scorer,” Wenham said.

“Coming in as a free signing, he will be looking for big wages, at least £150,000-per-week. You’re then looking at a signing-on fee of around £10million.

“Therefore, while it is classed as a free transfer, it certainly isn’t completely free. However, I can see the use in signing him as he can play out wide as well as upfront.”

Tottenham to sign Jonathan David after his contract expires with Lille?

Apart from Dominic Solanke, Ange Postecoglou doesn’t have much in the way of senior strikers available to him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Richarlison has been constantly unavailable as a result of injury this season, with Spurs being urged to cut ties with the Brazilain as early as January.

As a result, Will Lankshear has seen plenty of first-team opportunities this season. However, while the 19-year-old certainly has potential, the club need another experienced striker they can rely upon.

Therefore, while he might demand big wages, considering they won’t need to pay a transfer fee, signing David could make a lot of sense from Spurs’ point of view.

In other Tottenham news, the club could sanction a transfer for one first-team player as a “problem” emerges.
