Bryan King has speculated that Tottenham defender Djed Spence could return to Nottingham Forest on loan in January.
The ex-Spurs scout believes the full-back will be keen to play regular football, something he isn’t doing at the moment despite all the injury issues in North London.
As reported by Give Me Sport [9 December], Spence is expected to receive approaches to leave Tottenham on loan during the January transfer window. While Spurs are yet to decide on Spence’s short-term future, interested clubs are optimistic of the 24-year-old becoming available.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Nottingham Forest might be one of those clubs.
“When everybody is fit, Spence has no chance of playing,” King said.
“I would think that Spence is a player who could be moving on from the club because he isn’t getting regular football. You don’t want an unhappy face around the football club.
“Spence will want regular football, and it doesn’t look like he will get that at Tottenham. Even with all the recent injuries, he still isn’t playing. This is a player who made a name for himself at Nottingham Forest, that could certainly be a potential move.
“There are some ties between Nottingham Forest and Spurs.”
Djed Spence to leave Tottenham on loan and rejoin Nottingham Forest?
Spence played the best football of his career on loan with Forest in the Championship during the 2021/22 season. It was his performances that season which convinced Spurs to sign him, although his move to North London hasn’t gone to plan.
Therefore, a return to the City Ground could be exactly what Spence needs to get his career back on track.
Should he move on loan in January and impress during the second half of the season, Ange Postecoglou could rethink his stance on the player, provided he is still in charge of Tottenham next summer with the Australian believed to need something “remarkable” to save his long-term future.
As a result, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Spence leave Spurs in January.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou could be in trouble after what Daniel Levy did recently.
