Liverpool news: David Coote 'to be banned for life from PL'

David Coote is likely to be permanently banned from the Premier League after new pictures emerged following his comments about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the referees’ body PGMOL perhaps could have dealt with the matter had the images not been published.

Coote, 42, has been suspended by PGMOL and is under investigation by the FA after footage of him slating Liverpool and former manager Klopp leaked.

The official used several expletives to express his disdain for Klopp, with the pair having several run-ins before the German left Anfield earlier this year.

New pictures, which are understood to have been taken during this summer’s European Championships, later emerged online that appear to show Coote sniffing a white powder through a rolled-up US bank note.

Borson believes the new allegations make it easier for the PGMOL to permanently suspend the referee.

“I think the whole situation has moved on with the new allegations and new videos,” Borson told Football Insider.

“I think now it’s almost become a lot easier for the PGMOL.

“If it was just a situation where the comments that he made four years ago come out, then I think there was a chance that they could have dealt with it in terms of it firstly being a long time ago, secondly he has been suspended and thirdly everybody says these sorts of things, it’s not a case of just because you have a particular view, it doesn’t mean you are biased in some way.

“At the end of the day, if you watch the video, he was reacting to Klopp calling him a liar and I think that context would have been important.

“But I think it has moved on with the other video that has come out, so I think it’s very easy now for them to permanently suspend him from the Premier League.”
