Liverpool sources are saying something about Martin Zubimendi that they haven’t said all summer - journalist

It’s been all-quiet on the Liverpool front for most of this summer in terms of incoming transfer rumours.

The Merseyside club have been remarkably inactive over this transfer window, but they sprung into life over the past 24 hours.

Martin Zubimendi has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool over the past 24 hours, and according to Lewis Steele, speaking on the Born N’Red Playback page, this rumour feels different.

Indeed, the journalist says that while Liverpool sources have played down pretty much every rumour this summer, this one has been played up to him.

What Liverpool sources are saying about Martin Zubimendi

Steele shared what feels different about this Zubimendi rumour.

“There have been hundreds of players linked to Liverpool this summer and sources around the club have been steadfast in denying them straight away. This one has not been like that at all,” Steele said.

“It’s been basically agreeing that the club are very interested in him and very keen. The interest is very strong. There’s not much longer left in the transfer window, and Liverpool need to get cracking with this one.”

Zubimendi deal could happen

It’s not felt as though Liverpool have been close to any signings so far this summer, but that seems to have changed.

Indeed, Zubimendi looks like he’s a genuinely concrete target for Liverpool, and with Real Sociedad said to be resigned to losing the player, there could be some serious movement on this front soon.

We’ve had to wait a long time to see the first signing of the Arne Slot era at Anfield, but now it appears as though the ball is finally rolling in terms of transfers on Merseyside.

There could be some serious movement on the Zubimendi front in the coming days, and it wouldn’t be a shock if he signed for the Reds before the start of the Premier League season.
