Liverpool Sources: Van Dijk and Salah 'to sign new contracts'

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are likely “to now sign new Liverpool contracts” following latest talks, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that there is a growing confidence that both players will commit their futures to the Reds after months of uncertainty.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, however, remains 50-50 over a potential move to Real Madrid and there is less confidence about his future at Anfield.

Recent performances have proven how important both Salah, 32, and Van Dijk, 33, are to Arne Slot’s side, and there are concerns about the price it would cost to replace them.

It has also been said that getting contract negotiations out of the way at this stage would allow everybody at the club to focus on their title challenge.

As things stand, despite their excellent start to the season, much of the attention at Liverpool has been focused on their three out-of-contract stars.

Salah, in particular, has been outspoken about the situation after being constantly asked for updates during his media duties following their league fixtures.

Speculation about all three of Liverpool’s out-of-contract stars has been rife in recent weeks as the January transfer window draws closer.

As things stand, all three players will be able to enter talks next month over a pre-contract agreement to move abroad in the summer of 2025.

The Reds have been backed to begin negotiations before the turn of the year, but no specific time frame has been placed on their decision to offer new deals.

Well-connected former Man United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Salah would be more likely to sign a new contract if Van Dijk also commits to the club.

Now, with growing confidence that both players are prepared to put pen to paper, all eyes will be on Liverpool to make formal offers.

Brown also exclusively told Football Insider that he has been told Salah would be happy to sign a new deal and is waiting for the club to make a formal offer.
