'Looked so easy' - Wenham claims Tottenham loanee is not doing enough despite recent hattrick

John Wenham doesn’t think Tottenham striker Alejo Véliz is doing enough on loan with Espanyol.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose hasn’t seen anything which justifies the North London club’s decision to sign the striker.

After struggling to make an impact with Espanyol in Spain, the 21-year-old recently netted a hattrick in the club’s 4-0 win away at San Tirso in the first round of the Copa Del Rey on Thursday (31 October).

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – still isn’t impressed.

“I’ve seen those goals and I’d back myself to get a couple against that opposition,” Wenham said.

“It looked so easy, players collapsing on the floor and all that sort of stuff. However, it will still be good for his confidence.

“Hopefully now he can make some more meaningful contributions in the league because we haven’t seen enough from him to justify the money Tottenham spent signing him.

“He needs to start making things happen at Espanyol.”

After making such a bright start to life with Espanyol, Véliz has struggled to make an impact in Spain.

The Argentinian’s goals against San Tirso were his first since the end of August. Therefore, Ange Postecoglou will no doubt be concerned.

Should the young forward continue to struggle in Spain, it would be a second loan spell which hasn’t gone to plan for Véliz since he joined Tottenham.

That would leave Spurs at a real crossroads over what to do with the striker. However, hopefully, his recent hattrick will provide him a much-needed confidence boost, even if the quality of the opposition wasn’t the highest.

Espanyol play Barcelona in La Liga at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Sunday (3 November), and what better way for the Spurs loanee to make an impact than to score against one of Spain’s biggest clubs?

In other Tottenham news, a “significant” Dario Osorio transfer update has been shared.
