Si Ferry has torn into Cyriel Dessers after recent Ibrox developments suggesting the Rangers striker looks like he’s 42″.
The Nigerian forward has come under fire for his performances so far this season, with fans and pundits alike criticising him even after he found the net in the Gers’ Europa League draw with Olympiacos.
Although the forward has become one of the Light Blues’ most consistent sources of goals, Open Goal presenter Ferry has slammed the 29-year-old, suggesting he “cannot move” at the top end of the pitch.
Speaking on the Open Goal YouTube channel (7 November, 38:58) he said: “Dessers is… come on.
“He looks like he’s 42, he cannot move!”
What has happened to Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers at Ibrox?
Although Dessers appears to have a knack for scoring, the 29-year-old still misses far too many chances in front of goal.
To win the title this season, Philippe Clement’s side are going to need a striker that they can rely on to score more than 20 goals in the Premiership at least. Dessers may hit double figures, but it would be a shock if he got any more than that.
Outside of the penalty area, the Niergain international is just as frustrating. His hold-up play is severely lacking and he isn’t a natural when it comes to playing with his back to goal. While he doesn’t always get the best service, he is guilty of wasting possession when he gets it.
It’s safe to say the 29-year-old is by no means Clement’s biggest problem at Ibrox at this moment in time, but the Rangers manager needs to find a way of playing that can get the best out of the striker at the top end of the field.
Whether that means a change of shape to start either Hamza Igamane or Danilo alongside him or dropping him to the bench, it doesn’t feel like Dessers alone will be able to fire the Gers to silverware this term.
In other Rangers news, Cerny has been told that he looks like a “little boy” when he plays in the Scottish Premiership
