Lee McCulloch could not believe a moment of “madness” involving Oscar Cortes as Rangers draw 0-0 against Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday (3 August).
The Colombian winger was awarded a foul by referee Nick Walsh after being brought down by Gerald Taylor, which sent the home crowd crazy with the Jam Tarts on the attack after winning the ball back.
Cortes was one of the most threatening players on the pitch for Philippe Clement’s side, especially in the first half, before he was taken off injured.
Speaking live via BBC Sportsound on Saturday (3 August, 12:40pm), McCulloch said: “The whole of Tynecastle has gone crazy. That happened at the corner, and the referee didn’t give a foul.
“The same thing happens and he blows for a foul. It’s madness.”
Oscar Cortes causes problems in Rangers v Hearts
Unsurprisingly, Cortes was one of the biggest threats for Rangers as they battled against Hearts in the opening match of the Scottish Premiership season, accompanied by Cyriel Dessers, Tom Lawrence and Scott Wright in attack.
Fans will be hoping this is just a sign of things to come from the 20-year-old loanee after a poor pre-season showing, who convinced the club enough during his first loan spell at Ibrox last term despite making just seven appearances.
Rangers have decided to bring him back on loan, with a mandatory buy-clause, and it already looks to be a good decision by the Ibrox hierarchy.
However, there is a new fear over the young Colombian star, having exited the field three minutes into the second half with a fresh injury, being replaced by Rabbi Matondo.
The winger was distraught as he suffered a new injury at Tynecastle, and everyone at Ibrox will be holding their breath until an update is shared on the seriousness of his setback.
In other Rangers news, Tom English made a Philippe Clement prediction ahead of the Hearts clash after “dreadful” developments.
