'Fortunate' - Chris Sutton shares instant reaction to Rangers draw v Hearts

Chris Sutton believes that Rangers were “fortunate” to have drawn 0-0 with Hearts in the opening game of the Scottish Premiership.

The two sides collided on 3 August at Tynecastle as the Scottish Premiership kicked off with little to shout about in the capital.

Cyriel Dessers missed some chances, hitting the bar, but the home side were on top for large parts with plenty of work for Philippe Clement moving forward.

Sutton shared via X (3 August) and wrote: “Fortunate but good point maybe for Rangers at Hearts.”

Rangers desperately need new transfer

If one thing can be taken away from the Rangers and Hearts tie today (3 August) it is that the Gers are still fairly vulnerable across the board

Indeed, Robin Propper wasn’t involved in the squad [Scottish Sun, 2 August] after confirming his switch to Govan but his inclusion in the team alone likely won’t make enough of a difference.

The first half was mostly Hearts and whilst Clement’s side did manage to put up a fight and make the game fairly end to end, as Sutton said, it feels as if the club were somewhat fortunate by ending the game with a point to their name.

There’s still plenty of time left in the transfer window but if players such as wantaway Todd Cantwell [Record Sport, 30 July] and potentially even Dessers fail to find suitors this summer, Clement won’t be able to make many further additions.

Only time will tell what the future holds for the Gers but, should they continue performing like they did against Hearts, they may as well kiss their title hopes goodbye already.
