Ally McCoist was amazed by Cyriel Dessers after his “magnificent” touch of the ball that almost led to Vaclav Cerny putting Rangers 2-0 up versus Malmo.

The Gers came away from Sweden with all three points from their first Europa League fixture of the season on Thursday (26 September) and exceeded expectations.

Philippe Clement’s men were dominant throughout and Malmo never really stood a chance after the Gers’ first goal arrived within the first 56 seconds.

Almost every Gers player had a strong outing but McCoist singled out Dessers for praise while live on TNT Sports 2 (26 September, 18:27pm) for one particular moment.

“What a touch that is from Dessers – that is a magnificent touch of the ball from Dessers into [Nedim] Bajrami,” McCoist said.

Rangers managed to come away from Sweden with a more than impressive 2-0 win. While Cerny said the club welcomed the pressure from Gers fans to win games, nobody expected them to play as well as they did.

The Czech Republic international had an underwhelming moment that saw him slammed by McCoist as he missed a guilt-edge chance at the end of the first half [TNT Sports 2, 26 September, 18:27pm].

Aside from that, the rest of the squad played some of their best football this season.

The Europa League is undoubtedly one of the most important events on the Gers’ calendar as the further they get into the competition, the more money they’ll receive.

Dessers has been on fire this term and although he has been partial to missing the odd chance here and there, it’s undeniable what he can bring to the team if used correctly.

There’s still plenty of time for things to change of course but with the Gers now on a three-game winning streak, they could slowly creep their way up the Scottish Premiership table sooner than many think.
