Everton could land three signings in the coming days with Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips included, according to TEAMtalk.
The outlet reported via their website on 22 July that the England international could follow both Jesper Lindstrom and Willy Gnonto in at Goodison Park from Napoli and Leeds United respectively.
The 28-year-old is ready to move for more game time and is prepared to play for Sean Dyche after an approach was made at The Etihad.
Dyche wants to find a central replacement for Amadou Onana after his sale to Aston Villa so new talks are expected this week as Everton and City negotiate over the format of the deal.
Sean Dyche wants former West Ham loanee at Everton
Phillips emerged as a prime Toffees target at the start of the summer but the pursuit appeared to have gone quiet as exits and attacking signings were prioritised.
However the big-money Onana sale leaves a big hole in the midfield options and a move for Phillips was always expected to be linked to the Belgian leaving.
The takeover collapse is likely to make spending more conservative but deals should still be possible with staggered payments.
Beto and Youssef Chermiti was signed a year ago with nothing payable until this summer so as the source of future funding is now unclear Kevin Thelwell may need to attempt similar creativity.
Pep Guardiola apparently never needed Phillips despite getting City to spend £45m to bring him in from Leeds [Sky Sports] and by the time he ended up on loan under David Moyes at West Ham last term his confidence looked shot and the move was a disaster.
The current Toffees manager will therefore have to do a better job of building him up than the former Goodison boss did or it could be another mess, but Dyche believes proximity to Phillips’ home in Leeds should help make it a good fit [Mirror, 28 May].
According to TEAMtalk Everton are said to prefer a loan with a permanent option while City want an obligation so it remains to be seen what can be settled on.
Lindstrom is reportedly nearing a loan-to-buy move from Napoli [Gazzetta dello Sport, 22 July] and Jack Harrison is already occupying the first of two loan slots.
So someone would have to become a permanent move if the trio of signings are all going to make it in.
