Man City Exclusive: Big Jack Grealish update tonight

Jack Grealish wants to stay at Man City beyond the summer transfer window despite links with a move away, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the winger is determined to fight for his place both with City and England after missing out on the Euro 2024 squad.

However, it was also said that should he remain on the periphery of Pep Guardiola’s squad this season, he could look to move on in January.

After impressive performances in pre-season, the 28-year-old is “relishing” the battle with Jeremy Doku for a starting place in the team and is intent on proving his worth.

This comes after Football Insider revealed in June that Grealish was considering leaving the Etihad in search of first-team opportunities, with Aston Villa keen on a return.

Since joining Man City from Villa in 2021 for £100million, Grealish has made 125 appearances and helped to win three Premier League titles, the Champions League, and FA Cup and the Club World Cup.

However, his influence on Guardiola’s squad has weakened since his arrival, with Doku’s arrival providing a different option on the left-hand side.

Last season, the winger made just 36 appearances across all competitions and only 20 in the Premier League – of which he started just ten.

This lack of involvement meant he missed out on Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad which made it to the final before losing 2-1 to Spain.

However, sources say he is now the “fittest he’s ever been” and will continue to work hard to prove himself to Guardiola and the City coaching team.

Grealish remains desperate to play more first-team football, but believes he has the quality to do so at Man City rather than seeking an exit before 31 August.
