'Look at this...' - Stefan Borson suggests real reason Leeds have sold Summerville cheaply

Leeds United have likely sold Crysencio Summerville to West Ham for less than his valuation to help them meet the financial regulations.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Championship club’s cost base after missing out on promotion last season has likely forced them into their summer sales.

Summerville is the second big-name player to leave Elland Road after Archie Gray joined Tottenham in a £30million deal.

The 22-year-old has made the switch to West Ham for £25million plus add-ons, which is considerably less than Leeds were believed to be looking for at the start of the transfer window.

Leeds United needed to make another big-money sale

Borson believes Daniel Farke’s side perhaps needed to make another big sale to ensure they remain within their allowable losses limit.

He told Football Insider: “It’s quite difficult to model out Leeds because we don’t have what their costs were for last season yet.

“We won’t know that until probably early next year actually.

“But we know that they probably would have breached PSR had they not sold Gray at the death.

“I think it’s likely that their cost base without promotion needs them to sell players to meet PSR and Summerville is one of those players.

“If you look at the value they have sold at, it’s probably less than you would have imagined they would have been able to get for the player maybe six months ago.
