Man City v Tottenham preview: Lineups, betting odds, where to watch, prediction

Tottenham will travel to face Manchester City in the Premier League as Ange Postecoglou aims to replicate his Carabao Cup heroics on Saturday.

Spurs recorded a shock 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in October to knock the Premier League champions out of the Carabao Cup.

However, after the 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town prior to the international break, Postecoglou will face a tough ask to return to winning ways against a wounded Manchester City side.

Preview

While Tottenham will return to Premier League football in tenth place, the landscape could be more manageable, with only three points separating the side from third-place Chelsea.

Therefore, a win at the Etihad would be a monumental result for Postecoglou, but still, the Australian must iron out the “erratic” nature of his side if he is to pull off another shock result against Pep Guardiola.

Spurs will be reeling from the 2-1 loss at home to Ipswich last time out. The frailties within the squad were on display for all to see, and drastic changes will be necessary heading into this clash.

Maddison has fallen out of favour in North London as of late; Postecoglou is struggling to find the best way to utilise his talisman and must put aside whatever “problem” he has with the England international – he could be the key to unlocking a frail Man City defence.

The 2-1 loss in the Carabao Cup was the catalyst for a steep drop off in form for Man City – Guardiola has gone on to lose four consecutive matches for the first time in England, including two shock 2-1 losses against Bournemouth and Brighton.

However, Guardiola will be obsessing over how to turn around his side’s form, and they may be more dangerous than ever before with Liverpool threatening to run away in the Premier League title race.

Team News

Tottenham are facing an injury crisis at centre-back, with Micky van de Ven ruled out for the clash at the Etihad.

Cristian Romero remains doubtful for the fixture but could feature. However, he is expected to miss out after sustaining a foot injury on international duty with Argentina.

Rodrigo Bentancur will serve the first match of his seven-game FA suspension for racist remarks, leaving a hole in midfield to be filled by either Maddison or Pape Matar Sarr.

Richarlison and Wilson Odobert will also miss out as they continue rehabilitation with respective hamstring issues.

Manchester City will, of course, be without Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

However, Guardiola is set to receive a boost ahead of the clash with Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, Matheus Nunes and Nathan Ake all to be assessed for the weekend ahead of a significant influx of injury returns.

Predicted lineups

Manchester City: Ederson, Lewis, Stones, Ake, Gvardiol, Kovacic, Gundogan, Silva, De Bruyne, Savinho, Haaland

Tottenham: Vicario, Porro, Dragusin, Davies, Udogie, Kulusevski, Bissouma, Sarr, Johnson, Solanke, Son

Where to watch

The match at the Etihad kicks off at 5:30pm GMT on Saturday, 23 November, and will be available live on Sky Sports Main Event, the Sky Go app and the NOW TV app.

Prediction: Manchester City 2-2 Tottenham

This clash can potentially be an all-timer in the Premier League, with both sides heading into the contest top-heavy.

Postecoglou and Guardiola are struggling for defensive options and reeling off shock losses, and neither will want to leave the Etihad empty-handed on Saturday.

Tottenham can go to Manchester and get a result as they have done in the past, but given the unpredictability of both sides, a draw seems the most likely outcome in a match wherein both sides will go all guns blazing.

In other Tottenham news, an injury update has emerged on a first-team player who now faces months on the sidelines.
