Expert View: Hugo Lloris may have recommended brand-new transfer for Tottenham

Bryan King has speculated that Hugo Lloris might have recommended Lucas Chevalier to Tottenham.

The ex-Spurs scout believes the North London club are keen to bring a brand-new number two goalkeeper to the club.

As reported by TBR Football (19 November), Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been keeping an eye on Lille’s highly-rated goalkeeper Chevalier.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested that Lloris might have had a word with his former club about the 23-year-old Frenchman.

“I think Guglielmo Vicario’s consistency has been an issue,” King said.

“However, I think the main concern will be the number two spot. That is an area I think Spurs might be keen to strengthen.

“This is a player where I imagine Lloris might be behind this potential interest. We’re talking about a young, French goalkeeper here. Therefore, perhaps Lloris has recommended him to Spurs.

“Chevalier’s credentials are certainly very positive. As a result, if this young goalkeeper could be brought in to push Vicario, then that could only be a good thing for the club.”

Lloris spent more than a decade in North London. In addition, he was club captain for a large chunk of that time.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was still well-connected at Tottenham, and has had a few words with people at the club about a promising young, French goalkeeper.

Chevalier is only 23 and has already earned his first call-up for France and impressed in the UEFA Champions League this season. As a result, he could be an exciting addition in North London.

However, after Lloris’ recent comments about Daniel Levy, his word might not hold as much weight at Tottenham as it once did.
