Ange Postecoglou could be without Cristian Romero when Tottenham travel to Manchester City on Saturday.
Spurs headed into the November international break in the worst possible fashion after losing 2-1 to Ipswich Town in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (10 November).
As a result, Postecoglou will be keen for his side to get right back to winning ways.
However, that will be easier said than done as the Australian and his players travel to the Etihad Stadium (23 November).
A clash with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is difficult enough as it is, especially away from home. However, Spurs will also likely be without several key players, making things all the more difficult.
Cristian Romero to miss out for Tottenham against Manchester City
Guglielmo Vicario will expect to start between the sticks against City despite his struggles during the international break as Italy lost 3-1 against France at the San Siro in the UEFA Nations League (17 November).
Pedro Porro had an afternoon to forget against Ipswich as he was dribbled past once and gave possession away 26 times, with just three of his 12 crosses into the box accurate (Sofascore). However, he looked much improved for Spain over the international break and will expect to start against his former club on Saturday.
Destiny Udogie had a mixed afternoon last time out for Spurs, playing two key passes but also being dribbled past twice. However, just like Porro, he will still expect to keep his place.
Romero won 100 per cent of his ground duels and completed 87 per cent of his passes against Ipswich, underlying his importance in North London. However, he is expected to miss the clash at the Etihad after he suffered an injury setback while in action for Argentina. Meanwhile, Micky van de Ven is also likely to miss out against City.
Therefore, Postecoglou could be left with no choice but to start Ben Davies alongside Radu Drăgușin.
In midfield, Postecoglou is once again forced into a change, after Rodrigo Bentancur was handed a seven-match suspension by the FA. Yves Bissouma is likely to replace the 27-year-old after his impressive display for Mali in their 1-0 African Cup of Nations qualifying victory away at Mozambique in the Estádio do Zimpeto on Friday (15 November).
As per Sofascore, Bissouma succeeded with four of his seven attempted dribbles, while he was also impressive defensively, winning eight of his 15 ground duels and making one clearance and one interception.
Meanwhile, Pape Matar Sarr and Dejan Kulusevski will both likely keep their places.
Son Heung-min to start for Tottenham against Manchester City
Son Heung-min didn’t have his best afternoon against the Tractor Boys last time out. However, he still managed to create one big chance, play two key passes and register three successful dribbles.
Therefore, he will likely keep his place against City, with Dominic Solanke also expected to start alongside the South Korea international.
Finally, Brennan Johnson will also expect to keep his place in an unchanged front three against Guardiola’s side, with the Welshman impressing for Wales over the international break.
