'Need to Accept' - Journalist issues imminent Dyche exit verdict after West Ham as Everton takeover nears

Everton will not make a decision on the future of Sean Dyche this close to the takeover of the club, says Ian Croll.

The Liverpool Echo journalist responded via X on 10 November to the suggestion that the Toffees need to make a change in the dug out after the goalless draw with West Ham a day earlier, insisting it isn’t going to happen at this stage.

Dyche hasn’t overseen a win in the past three games and drew criticism for leaving a fit Jarrad Branthwaite on the bench for the 1-1 draw with Fulham (26 October) and the 1-0 loss to bottom side Southampton on 2 November [Michael Ball, 4 November], but with the ownership situation close to being resolved no moves are likely before then.

The Friedkin Group’s takeover has been predicted to complete in around a month’s time [Alan Myers, 25 October].

Croll wrote: “The club aren’t going to make a decision with a takeover only weeks away. People need to accept that.”

Farhad Moshiri won’t sack Sean Dyche before Everton exit

It’s hardly surprising that there is unlikely to be any movement at the manager position imminently, and there may not be any until the summer either way.

Farhad Moshiri surely isn’t looking for another major decision and since Dan Friedkin would presumably be bankrolling the hiring and firing anyway it makes no sense for the current owner not to leave it to his successor.

There seemed a slight chance that the outgoing majority shareholder’s hand might be forced at the start of the season when Dyche kicked off the campaign with a miserable run of four-straight defeats, since a rapidly-sinking ship could have had a bearing on his attempts to find a buyer.

But since Friedkin roared back into the picture to elbow John Textor out of the driving seat and get a deal agreed it is surely the Roma chief who will be deciding on the manager.

Everton are unlikely to take any action on Sean Dyche ahead of Dan Friedkin’s takeover.

Absent Dyche going on a storming run the finish somewhere comfortably in the top 10 it remains difficult to envisage the American deciding to stick with the man who was brought in to fight fires at Goodison Park yet has divided the fanbase during that time.

He can justifiably point to having carried out his brief, in avoiding relegation twice despite the turmoil of takeover attempts coming and going, financial uncertainty, and multiple points deductions.

But with Everton set to move into their glittering new stadium next season to herald a new era under Friedkin he surely will be looking for a manager who the entire fanbase will rally behind, and has none of the baggage of a period in the club’s history most would like to quickly forget.

But the new owner is unlikely to make a knee-jerk decision as soon as he arrives and will reportedly give Dyche a chance to prove he deserves a new deal [TEAMtalk, 24 October].

But there are few signs currently that the former Burnley boss will manage to do that, so departing when his current contract expires in the summer seems fairly probable.
