Tottenham have been linked with a move for Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber.

As reported by Football Transfers [12 December], Ange Postecoglou is willing to move on Yves Bissouma to make space for the Dutchman.

However, Spurs could struggle to sell Bissouma, with the Mali international expected to refuse to leave the North London club.

This could make a transfer for Timber difficult, although Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think this move should be a priority anyway.

“I think midfield is one area where we are quite well-stocked at the moment,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, I’d much rather a left-back or a centre-back were targeted instead. However, Timber does seem to be a player with a growing reputation. As a result, I’m not surprised that Tottenham are aware of the situation and keeping an eye on him.

“However, he wouldn’t be a priority signing for me.”

Tottenham to sell Yves Bissouma and sign Quinten Timber?

This isn’t the first time that Bissouma’s exit has been mooted to make way for a potential midfield signing. However, Postecoglou and Spurs must decide whether this should be the priority as of now.

While signing a new midfielder could benefit the squad, it feels as though other areas are more in need of strengthening. The club’s injury crisis this season, which has led to behind-the-scenes firings being mooted, has exposed their lack of depth in defensive areas.

Therefore, Postecoglou would probably benefit more from players being signed in that area of the pitch.

However, if they could offload Bissouma and use that money to sign Timber, this might not impact the transfer budget, which would mean defenders could still be signed, especially as the money continues to roll in with yet another big payday lined up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In other Tottenham news, Adrian Durham launched a rant about Postecoglou in a “nonsense” claim.
