Keith Hackett believes that Francisco Trincao dived against Man City, leading to a “very harsh” penalty being awarded.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-FIFA and Premier League official believes that the Sporting CP winger went down “under slight contact.”
The Portuguese side thrashed City 4-1 last Tuesday (5 November) as Pep Guardiola’s side continued their recent poor run of form.
Trincao played a significant role in that as he was judged to have been fouled inside the box by Josko Gvardiol after he elbowed the 24-year-old.
It provided Viktor Gyokeres the chance to convert from 12 yards and score his second goal of the game, but Hackett didn’t feel it was a penalty.
Keith Hackett believes Man City were harshly done with the first penalty decision
Hackett told Football Insider, “What you have here is what happens in the modern game.
“The attacking player, with the ball in front of him, runs across the defender.
“Under slight contact, he’s gone down, and referees in Europe will award a free-kick or penalty in that situation.
“It’s manufactured by the attacker, referees have to be cuter.
“This is a harsh penalty kick, I believe the player has simulated in this situation.”
