Manchester United have accepted they’re unlikely to sign Jarrad Branthwaite before the 30 August transfer deadline, according to the Daily Mail.
The outlet reported on its website on Tuesday (20 August) that the Red Devils haven’t given up on securing the England international’s signature however and he remains on their radar.
Erik ten Hag’s side could revisit a deal for the 22-year-old in the next 12 months having had two offers rejected by the Toffees so far this summer, the latest of which was worth £50million.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are also known to be admirers of Branthwaite so any renewed approach from United will be reliant on Branthwaite not leaving Goodison Park for another club sooner.
Will Jarrad Branthwaite exit Everton amid Manchester United transfer rumours?
Everton made it clear throughout the summer transfer window that they don’t have to sell Branthwiate this summer while insisting that they would not sanction his sale for a cut-price despite their off-the-field issues.
While few pundits and supporters expected them to stand by their word, they have remained committed and that decision has been vindicated as it appears to have scared Manchester United off for the meantime at least.
Branthwaite was a key part of what made Dyche’s side so hard to beat last term and keeping him on Merseyside for the foreseeable future will massively boost the Toffees’ chances of avoiding relegation again this season.
If the 22-year-old makes the move to Old Trafford next term, the Blues may pocket an even larger transfer fee, with some journalists suggesting the defender could be worth up to £100million by that point [Chris Beesley, 2 July].
Regardless of whether or not this move happens in the future, Dyche and those around him at Everton deserve plenty of credit for not being bullied by United’s low offers.
It isn’t often a team can continue to reject approaches from one of the big six in the modern game.
