Viktor Gyokeres has told Manchester United and Arsenal what they must do if they want to sign the prolific striker from Sporting Lisbon.

The Sweden international has emerged as a top target for the Premier League giants, with United’s interest stepping up after the appointment of head coach Ruben Amorim.

Amorim bought Gyokeres to Lisbon and extracted the best out of the forward, who has to date scored 66 goals in 68 games for the Portuguese club.

It is no wonder then why interest in the 26-year-old is so high, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich also keen.

Sporting are willing to let go of their talisman for £63million, a fee far under his release clause, but not before next summer, while Amorim has already stated that he will not sign any of his former players in the January transfer window.

But of course a lot depends on whether Gyokeres wants to leave and if so, where he would prefer to move to, with the former Coventry star previously distancing himself from a transfer to Old Trafford.

But in a fresh interview with Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, he seemed more open to the idea, but named his conditions for any potential move.

‘That you get an important role and that you get to play. That’s the most important thing,’ he said.

‘There are other things that also need to be in place, but I’ll take it when it comes.’

United’s only natural centre-forward at the moment is Rasmus Hojlund, a promising but so far unconvincing No.9, who has scored 18 goals in 55 appearances since his £72million move from Atalanta.

It remains to be seen whether Amorim can turnaround the 21-year-old’s form like he did with Gyokeres, but regardless, the Red Devils will surely need more firepower.

Chelsea and Bayern already boost quality striker options in Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Harry Kane, but the same cannot be said for Arsenal.

While Kai Havertz is performing well as their centre-forward, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli’s struggling form has reignited calls for the Gunners to sign a more natural goalscorer and Gyokeres would fit the bill.

But would the Swede favour a reunion with Amorim? The player added: ‘It’s very sad that he’s leaving, but of course we understand his decision.

‘He has of course meant a lot [to me] considering that he gave me that chance and that he made me develop so much.”

‘He probably has some strikers there already, so we’ll see. No, he hasn’t [contacted me]. It’s fun but nothing I attach any importance to because it’s talk and nothing concrete.’
