Man Utd make breakthrough in bid to sign next top target with personal terms agreed
A deal is now close...
Manchester United have made a breakthrough in their bid to sign Manuel Ugarte with Paris Saint-Germain prepared to accept a loan offer for the midfielder.
Erik ten Hag is eager to strengthen his options in midfield this summer with the Uruguay international emerging as a leading target.
Ugarte joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon last summer having rejected a move to Chelsea but with Joao Neves poised to join the French champions from Benfica, he has slipped further down the pecking order in Paris.
Ugarte is keen on a move to Old Trafford but United hit an impasse in talks last month with PSG reportedly demanding a fee of close to £60million.
L’Equipe now report the United will proposal an initial season-long loan deal, including a loan fee, with a considerable option to buy clause.
Ugarte has already agreed personal terms with Ugarte, the report adds.
United have made two signings this summer in Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro. However, ten Hag is set to be without the £52million signing from Lille for up to three months after he suffered a fractured metatarsal in just his second pre-season game for his new club.
Rasmus Hojlund also suffered a hamstring injury in that same game against Arsenal and is set for six weeks on the sidelines.
Marcus Rashford and Antony also limped off in United’s victory over Real Betis on Wednesday night although the extent of those knocks is not yet known.
With Hojlund and Yoro set to miss the start of the new Premier League season, United are hoping to accelerate further transfer business and are keen on more new recruits in defence and attack.
Brentford striker Ivan Toney is an option under consideration with United interested in Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite.
United begin the new league campaign at home to Fulham on Friday August 16.
