Manchester City will begin the new season without one of their brightest talents after Oscar Bobb suffered a bad leg injury.

Bobb has long been touted for the top and after an impressive pre-season and performance in the Community Shield, it seemed he would have a big part to play for the Premier League champions.

But unfortunately for City, the 21-year-old attacker is now set for an extended period on the sidelines after fracturing a bone in his leg just days before the new season kicks-off.

The club are yet to reveal the extent of the problem though it is reported that he has avoided the severest of injuries.

Nevertheless, the Norway international is expected to miss the first ‘several months’ of the campaign in what could prove to be a costly blow for Pep Guardiola.

The Citizens begin their Premier League campaign on Sunday away to Chelsea, with the next few months featuring tricky fixtures against Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool.

There will also be a number of Champions League and Carabao Cup games to contend with.

Bobb has only made 27 senior appearances in his club career, scoring two goals and making three assists, but he was incredibly prolific for City’s youth teams and has two goals in eight caps for his country.

The injury may well prompt Guardiola to delve into the transfer market as Bobb had been expected to effectively replace Julian Alvarez’s role in the side after the Argentine departed for Atletico Madrid in an £82million transfer.

It has already been confirmed that Jack Grealish is a doubt for the clash at Stamford Bridge after picking up a small injury ahead of the Community Shield win over Manchester United.

Key midfielder Rodri is also expected to miss the opening game, or at the very least be on the bench, after he only returned to first-team training on Wednesday following his triumphant Euro 2024 campaign with Spain.
