Manchester United eyeing Denzel Dumfries in swap deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Wan-Bissaka looks set for the exit door at Old Trafford this summer.
Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has rejected West Ham in favour of a move to Inter Milan, with a swap deal involving Denzel Dumfries being discussed.
Wan-Bissaka joined United in a £45million switch from Crystal Palace back in 2019 and has gone on to make 190 appearances for the Red Devils over the last five seasons.
But the right-back, widely regarded as one of the most tenacious tacklers in the Premier League, appears set for the exit door at Old Trafford, with West Ham long-term admirers.
Wan-Bissaka has one year remaining on his current deal at the Theatre of Dreams, meaning United must decide whether to cash in on the full-back this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer in 12 months time.
And while United are prepared to do business should they receive an offer of around £15m for Wan-Bissaka, the 26-year-old is not keen on the prospect of joining the Hammers.
Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have also been credited with a strong interest in Wan-Bissaka in recent weeks but the ex-Palace star has his heart set on Serie A champions Inter, according to The Athletic.
It’s claimed a potential exchange involving Wan-Bissaka and Inter wing-back Dumfries is being negotiated by intermediaries. However, these talks are not believed to have reached an advanced stage as yet.
Reports emanating out of Italy earlier this summer indicated Dumfries was ‘heading towards the exit’ at the San Siro, with the Premier League said to be ‘the most attractive’ option for the Netherlands defender.
Like Wan-Bissaka, Dumfries has entered into the final year of his current contract and talks over a possible renewal have so far come to nothing.
The idea of a Wan-Bissaka-Dumfries swap agreement had also been floated by Inter in the January transfer window but United opted to keep hold of the player for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.
Asked for an update on his future in April, Dumfries suggested discussions over an extension in Milan were ‘going well’ despite contrary rumours in Italy.
‘We haven’t been working on that yet. Because we’ve still been working to win the Scudetto. Now the European Championships are also approaching as well,’ the Dutchman said.
‘You never know how things will go. But the talks have been going well.
‘The club is going through a particular moment, but I expect that the talks will resume soon.’
