Manchester United fans unveil Rashford banner at Tottenham after new bombshell 

Marcus Rashford was the subject of a banner from Manchester United fans during their 4-3 loss to Tottenham in the EFL Cup on Thursday.

TNT Sports posted on X (19 December) after spotting a large sign displayed in the away end at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium shortly after kick-off, which urged Rashford to leave the club.

Rashford has been linked with a move to North London after saying he’d like a “new challenge” away from Old Trafford [Henry Winter, 17 December], but Ange Postecoglou has poured water on Spurs’ chances of signing him.

The banner read: “Excuses. Ta’ra (goodbye) Marcus.”

There’s no doubt that on his day, Rashford is one of the most electrifying players English football has to offer, but as has been made clear by the travelling fans, those days come very few and far between.

That sentiment is reflected by new United boss Ruben Amorim too, who left Rashford out of the squad in North London – meaning the forward wasn’t even on the pitch to see that banner in the away end.

Spurs offering Rashford an exit route from Old Trafford could prove to be the making of the 27-year-old, but with Dominic Solanke and Son Heung-min already in their frontline, the Lilywhites hardly need him.

Furthermore, Rashford openly declaring his desire for a new challenge certainly can’t have helped to aid harmony in the Red Devils dressing room, and that’s something Postecoglou would rather do without.

Where Rashford goes next is anyone’s guess given his huge wages and dwindling reputation, but Postecoglou dismissing the prospect of signing him could be a telling sign of Spurs’ position.
