Manchester United in talks to sign £25m Germany star seen as a ‘very good fit’ for Ruben Amorim
David Raum is on Manchester United’s shortlist (Getty) Manchester United are stepping up their interest in signing RB Leipzig left-back David Raum, according to reports in Germany. It’s understood that Ruben Amorim has targeted the left side of his defence as a key area to strengthen following the recent long-term injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. According to Sky Germany, United have already held ‘concrete discussions’ with Raum in the summer transfer window and the Premier League club are continuing to monitor the Germany international’s situation at RB Leipzig. The report adds that Raum is viewed as a ‘very good fit’ as a left-sided wing-back in Amorim’s system. RB Leipzig, however, remain in a strong negotiating position as Raum’s current contract expires in June 2027. The 26-year-old, who has 26 caps for Germany, joined RB Leipzig in a €30 million (£25m) deal from Hoffenheim in July 2022. Bayern Munich have also reportedly registered their interest in Raum as they are in the market for a new left-sided defender to replace Alphonso Davies, who is set to be available on a free transfer next summer and has been linked with Real Madrid. When asked about his future last month Raum said: ‘If I were to be honest, I would say I have no idea what will happen after this season but I have a contract here in Leipzig and everything is great.’ Asked if RB Leipzig had received an offer for him, Raum said: ‘No, not at all. There’s no discussion, nothing. ‘I can honestly say that and that is why it’s not a topic for me at all. But we all know how things are in football. I feel extremely comfortable here and see my future in Leipzig. ‘But I have also said, for example, that the Premier League might be a dream and a big goal at some point.’ For more stories like this, check our sport page.
