Manchester United set to challenge for Real Madrid target with huge bid

Real Madrid have been strongly linked to Lille defender Leny Yoro, who has been earmarked as perhaps the most promising talent of his generation. The 18-year-old French centre-back is keen to move this summer, but Manchester United have emerged as favourites for his services.

Originally Paris Saint-Germain were Los Blancos’ largest competitors, having had a bid turned down in January. Lille are reportedly demanding €60m for his services, despite having just a year on his contract. Real Madrid, conscious of his contractual situation, are not willing to get drawn into a bidding war, and will not bid more than €40m, including variables.

According to Marca, Manchester United are willing to meet Lille’s demands, and vastly outbid Real Madrid in their contract offer for Yoro. His preference has always been Real Madrid, but if United can persuade Yoro into the move, then Lille would clearly rather accept a bid from the Red Devils.

Real Madrid have maintained contact with Yoro, and are still keen on signing him, but have told the defender that he must turn down better offers if he wants to play for Real Madrid. Meanwhile Yoro watched Manchester United lift the FA Cup two weekends ago at Wembley, after which he met with the directors. So far Yoro has not accepted their offer, but it remains to be seen whether that will still be the case come the end of the summer.

Los Blancos have the advantage of the most impressive project in football currently, with a young team packed with talent, and Kylian Mbappe arriving. In addition, they are already arguably the best side in Europe. Meanwhile PSG and United will pay more, and in the case of the latter at least, almost certainly offer more football. Yoro may back himself to win a spot, but he would begin the season fourth of fifth in the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu.
