Manchester United to make Branthwaite decision today as Everton brace for bid - report

Manchester United will decide on whether to return with a second bid for Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite on Monday 8 July, according to the Daily Mail.

Writing on their website (7 July), the news outlet reports that the Red Devils are close to sealing deals to sign Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs De Ligt to bolster Erik Ten Hag’s squad at Old Trafford.

But Branthwaite remains a top target for the Reds and after they had a £43m bid rejected earlier this summer, they will hold a transfer recruitment meeting to decide on whether to make a new bid for the England international.

It has been reported that Man United are preparing a second bid for Branthwaite [Daily Mail, 22 June], but there have been doubts because Everton are demanding £70million to even entertain talks.

Manchester United have made it clear that they won’t go that high, and if the Toffees aren’t willing to drop their price at all then negotiations are pointless for all involved.

With a deal for De Ligt seemingly on the right track too, there is far less need for United to cave into demands they don’t want to meet and there is a real chance this deal dies completely.

With Manchester City refuting claims they could enter the race too [MEN, 3 July], Everton will be even more confident of keeping hold of their star defender as the players begin to return for pre-season.

It will be a huge boost for Sean Dyche’s preparations for the new campaign and fans will be able to sleep a bit easier at night knowing Branthwaite is going nowhere.
