Manchester United have no plans to revive a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong before the transfer window shuts.

The Dutchman was the subject of a ten-week pursuit from United in 2022, with Barcelona accepting a bid in the region of £60m for the Netherlands international.

However, De Jong turned down a move to Old Trafford and felt that he was being pushed out of the Camp Nou because of his high wages.

United signed Casemiro from Real Madrid for £60m after it became apparent that De Jong was unwilling to move to the north-west.

The Brazilian still has two years to run on his £350,000-a-week deal at the Theatre of Dreams but United would consider offers for the 32-year-old this summer.

Regardless of whether Casemiro leaves or not, Erik ten Hag wants to recruit a midfielder following Sofyan Amrabat’s departure.

That has sparked reports that United could resurrect a move for De Jong, with Barcelona still struggling to balance the books.

But Metro Sport understands United are pursuing other options and have no plans to move for De Jong.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte is a leading target, though the French club will have to lower their £51m asking price for a move to materialise.

Burnley are seeking £30m for Norway international Sander Berge, who was left out of Friday night’s 4-1 win against Luton.

United have already spent around £140m on the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijis De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Napoli are interested in signing Scott McTominay and United may need to offload the Scot in order to sign a new midfielder.
