Marc Guehi: Big Newcastle update today from O'Rourke

Newcastle are confident of signing Marc Guehi after submitting a new bid worth £65million in add-ons, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Crystal Palace don’t want to lose Guehi or Joachim Andersen so late in the window.

Newcastle have now submitted four formal bids for Guehi and are convinced he wants to join them before the window shuts this months.

The north-east giants are waiting for Palace’s response to their latest move for the England defender.

Club chairman Steve Parish made it clear this week that clubs would have to pay “superstar money” to sign the England international.

Palace are using the scale of Chelsea’s £75million purchase for Wesley Fofana to gauge how much money they can make from this particular deal.

Guehi has featured for his current club in pre-season after returning from international duty, where he had impressed during Euro 2024.

Palace also have no interest in selling Anderson despite the Fulham’s £20million bid for his services.

Palace expects both Guehi and Anderson to be lining up this weekend when they play Brentford, and are planning for the new season with both men in the team.

The Magpies have made the 24-year-old their number-one target in this window as Eddie Howe looks to enhance his defensive options.

However, they have already had three offers knocked back for the player as Palace are set to make the north east giants work to land his signature.

Football Insider revealed that Newcastle are even starting to assess the market for alternative options as this deal continues to prove tricky to get over the line.

In a positive situation for the Magpies, the club are said to be “very confident” that Alexander Isak will remain at St James’ Park for next season.

Chelsea had held talks with Newcastle earlier in the summer and there was also interest from other Premier League clubs, but Football Insider revealed that the club have no desire to sell him.

In other news, Newcastle would ‘love’ to sign Raphinha as offers submitted.
