'Here we go': Fabrizio Romano says 'massive' midfielder linked with Tottenham will join PL rivals for £30m

Tottenham Hotspur have had quite a fruitful summer on the transfer front, making a number of solid signings.

Spurs signed Archie Gray early on in the transfer window, bringing one of England’s best young players to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert have joined the Tottenham ranks from Bournemouth and Burnley respective, while Gangwon FC’s Yang Min-hyuk is set to arrive at N17 next year.

In addition, Lucas Bergvall has arrived at Tottenham after they struck a deal with Djurgarden in winter, and Timo Werner has re-signed on loan from RB Leipzig.

However, there will invariably be targets who slip through the net. Fabrizio Romano has now spoken of a Spurs-linked midfielder who is now joining a Premier League rival.

Tottenham target Matt O’Riley now set for Brighton

The player in question is Celtic’s Matt O’Riley, who Tottenham were linked with ahead of the summer transfer window.

Back in May, GiveMeSport reported that Ange Postecoglou was keen on a reunion with the Denmark international, who he managed at Parkhead.

However, speculation tapered off as the summer went on, and Brighton have since pushed on to get a deal over the line, according to Romano.

The transfer insider declared “here we go” on O’Riley to Brighton for an initial £25million fee, with add-ons potentially taking the deal to £30million.

Romano complimented the Seagulls on completing another “massive” signing in quick succession, after also getting a deal over the line for Ferdi Kadioglu.

Best midfielder in Scotland now set for the Premier League

O’Riley would’ve been a good shout for Tottenham, as Postecoglou knows him well from when they were both at Celtic, and he can play at No. 6, No. 8 and No. 10.

Admittedly, Spurs have brought Gray and Bergvall to N17 just this summer, so perhaps Postecoglou feels he now has enough cover in the middle of the park.

Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see how O’Riley fares at Brighton after becoming arguably the best midfielder in Scotland.

Their record in signing rising stars and turning them into superstars speaks for itself, and he could well be the next to make a huge name for himself in blue and white.
