Tottenham are “unlikely” to make a move for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to Jay Harris.
The Lilywhites journalist for The Athletic has shared that the North Londoners aren’t expected to pursue the 27-year-old’s signature amid links of an Old Trafford exit.
Spurs would find it difficult to acquire the England international’s services, as his £325,000-a-week wages would be a stumbling block.
In The Athletic [26 December], Harris wrote: “It is an easy link to make but, reading between the lines, any potential move for Rashford feels unlikely.
“He turned 27 in October, and Spurs have focused on signing players under the age of 23 since Postecoglou was appointed.
“Rashford prefers to play on the left wing, which is where captain Son, Werner and Wilson Odobert operate. The England international’s £325,000 a week wages would be a stumbling block, too.”
Tottenham don’t need Marcus Rashford in January
While Rashford undoubtedly has the quality to play for the North Londoners, the Englishman’s form over the last couple of years is troubling.
It feels like the forward needs to leave the English top flight and ply his trade abroad, and a club like Atletico Madrid would be the right fit for him.
The 27-year-old has recently lost his place in the Man United squad after Ruben Amorim’s arrival.
Tottenham are in a mess at the moment, with Ange Postecoglou dealing with several injury issues in defence.
Against the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup and the Premier League fixture against Liverpool, it was evident that the Lilywhites were weak defensively.
Radu Dragusin is failing to meet expectations, and Archie Gray has been deployed out of position at centre-back.
Daniel Levy needs to back the Australian manager in the upcoming transfer window and add reinforcements at the back.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are world-class on their day, but their fitness issues make them unreliable.
A transfer for Rashford wouldn’t make sense for Spurs right now as there are other priorities.
