Mason Greenwood trains with ex-Manchester United teammate ahead of next move
The 22-year-old is back in Manchester.
Mason Greenwood trained with former Manchester United teammate Shola Shoretire in Manchester ahead of his next move.
The 22-year-old has just spent the season on loan at Getafe and United are now looking to sell the forward before the end of the summer transfer window.
Greenwood has not played for United since he was arrested in January 2022 for attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault.
All charges against Greenwood were dropped in February 2023 and United had considered reintegrating him back into Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad before the Premier League club received major backlash over his potential return.
Greenwood impressed during his loan spell at Getafe, scoring eight goals and registering six assists in La Liga last season and was named as the Spanish club’s Player of the Season.
Speaking in May, Getafe president Angel Torres made it clear that he was keen for Greenwood to extend his stay with the Madrid-based club.
‘If it depends on the boy and the parents,’ Torres told Radio Marca. ‘I think he would continue another year here.
‘But Manchester United’s idea is to sell if there is a good offer, so we will have to wait. But I hope he is going to stay.’
The forward is now preparing for the new season and took part in a private session in Manchester with Shoretire, whose contract with United expired last month.
Greenwood was seen reporting for training with a pair of limited edition Virgil Abloh Nike Vapor football boots wearing Jamaica’s national shirt alongside his dad, who acts as his agent.
United’s players are due to report back for pre-season training on Monday, however, it’s understood that Greenwood is set to be granted more time off as the club continue to work on his transfer.
Lazio have already submitted a bid to sign Greenwood worth €20 million (£16.9m) plus a 50 per cent sell-on clause, but that has been rejected by United as they want a fee closer to £40m.
Marseille have also registered their interest and reports in Italy this week claimed that the Ligue 1 side were close to reaching an agreement with United.
