Leeds United-linked defender Max Aarons should consider moving to the Championship club after failing to break into Bournemouth’s starting eleven.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Scotland striker Frank McAvennie believes Aarons, 24, doesn’t fit into Andoni Iraola’s plans at the South Coast club and should push for a move to Leeds.

The right-back snubbed Leeds United to join Bournemouth from boyhood club Norwich City back in August of 2023 but has failed to make an impression at the Premier League side.

The West Yorkshire club are set for a busy end to the transfer window as they seek to replace a number of high-profile departures.

Football Insider revealed (August 28) that Leeds United are in advanced talks with Fortuna Dusseldorf about signing central midfielder Ao Tanaka.

Max Aarons should leave Bournemouth for Leeds United

Aarons missed 15 games for Bournemouth last season due to a recurring hamstring injury but did manage to make 23 appearances across all competitions.

The Englishman has now fallen down the pecking order at the Vitality Stadium following the £8 million signing of Julian Araujo from Barcelona.

“Bournemouth looked good at the weekend, I liked the way they played”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“They have a formation and if he’s (Max Aarons) not up to scratch with it then the manager doesn’t mess about.

“He brings in players and he’s been ruthless since he came in and he won’t be worried about telling the guy if he’s not up to his standard at the moment.

“If not seen much of his to give an honest opinion but some people get too much money and they think they’ve made it.

“Maybe he just needs to restart his career again and somebody has to have a talk with him.

“Going to Leeds would be great, if I had the chance to go to Leeds because I wasn’t playing, I would go to Leeds.

“It’s a great place for him to start his career again and get it off the ground.”
