Medical Next Week: Club agree deal to sign Cardiff City star - Exclusive

Newport County have agreed a permanent transfer with Cardiff City for Cameron Antwi, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old will sign for Newport County on a two-year contract after he completes a medical next week.

Once that has gone through the deal is expected to be announced publicly, with the midfielder joining in time to get a full pre-season with his new club.

Antwi originally joined Cardiff from Blackpool in 2022, but he has only made one cameo appearance for the club.

Antwi featured for just four minutes in the FA Cup last season, but never played any Championship football as he now prepares to drop down the football pyramid in search of more game time.

Newport will be boosted by youth

The young midfielder might have struggled for minutes at Cardiff, but he does have some experience in the professional men’s game.

Antwi made eight appearances for Telford United and also featured a couple of times for Blackpool and Southport earlier in his career.

Typically deployed in central midfield, Antwi can also play in a more defensive role which provides some versatility to his game.

Cardiff might be open to letting Antwi leave, but they are hoping to be active in the transfer market when it comes to bolstering the squad.

Football Insider revealed they are one of three clubs interested in signing Edgardo Farina, who has impressed in the Copa America.
