Michael Stewart slams Rangers man who wasn't happy with what Clement did v St Johnstone

Michael Stewart has condemned Cyriel Dessers for his reaction after being substituted off during Rangers’ win versus St Johnstone on Sunday (6 October).

The 29-year-old missed an early chance to put the Gers ahead, blazing over the crossbar from a corner, but was relatively ineffective as he touched the ball just 12 times at Ibrox.

After just an hour, Philippe Clement chose to replace him with 21-year-old Hamza Igamane, with the striker letting out his frustration on the bench after leaving the pitch early in the 2-0 win.

Speaking live via Premier Sports [6 October, 9:18pm], Stewart said: “Dessers has not been at his best tonight. He’s not best pleased that he’s been taken off, but his side are 2-0 up here.

“When you look at Hagi coming on, he’s made a difference. You’re looking for guys who are going to do something to unlock the door. Cerny has scored two, and Hagi sets the second one up.

“You want these guys in the final third to be coming up with the play that leads to goals, creating opportunities. It’s frustration. He’s know himself.”

While Vaclav Cerny made sure the Gers had no regrets in the 2-0 win over the Saints, no striker wants to leave the pitch without making up for an early mistake.

Despite scoring 22 goals in his first season in Scotland, and already netting seven times in all competitions this term, the forward is followed by criticism.

Some, such as Stewart, will not be so keen on Dessers’ reaction to being substituted, but his manager will love the fight and dedication shown in the off-the-pitch tantrum. He wants to score for the team.

A number of strikers were linked with an Ibrox switch during the summer transfer window, and Dessers was linked with a move away, but fans were frustrated by his decision to stay in Glasgow.

However, he looks to have changed the minds of quite a few fans with his early displays this season, and he will undoubtedly be ready to right his wrongs in the next match.
