Midfielder days away from advanced talks as Everton speak with agent - Fabrizio Romano

Everton are potentially days away from advanced talks with Kalvin Phillips, with the Toffees having already spoken to his agent, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing in his Daily Briefing on Sunday (28 July), the journalist reported that while there is no major update as of yet, the Goodison Park outlet has already had a conversation with the 28-year-old’s agent.

Phillips is pushing to find a permanent move away from Manchester City this summer after falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola.

Romano wrote: “There’s no major update yet on Kalvin Phillips’ situation. Everton have been linked, and my understanding is that Everton but also many other clubs spoke with his agents, even if at the moment it’s not something close or imminent.

“I’m told it can take some days to assess all the options and then enter into advanced talks.”

With Amadou Onana off to Aston Villa, Everton need a new midfielder, and Phillips could be the perfect fit. The player wants to leave Manchester City for good after not getting much playtime under Pep Guardiola.

And while his loan to West Ham last season didn’t go well, his talent is still there just waiting to be reignited.

Phillips was a star at Leeds United, helping them get promoted to the Premier League. And, although his time at City and the Hammers has been tough, he has the skills to shine at Goodison Park.

Everton prefer a loan deal due to money issues, but Phillips wants a permanent move, and City are willing to let him go for £20million [Football Insider, July 17].

If the 28-year-old manages to reach an agreement with the Toffees, this could work out well for everyone, giving Phillips a fresh start and Everton the strong midfielder they need.

Phillips has the experience and talent to fill the gap left by Onana.
