Cork City are set to benefit from Jake O’Brien’s “life changing” move to Everton from Lyon according to The Irish Dependant.
Writing on their website (28 July), the Northern Ireland Football League side will receive £253,000 from the move.
FIFA solidarity payment rules state that 5 per cent of any transfer fee is divided between the clubs a player has played for between the ages of 15 and 23.
O’Brien spent three years at his hometown club before making the permanent switch to Crystal Palace in 2021.
Everton set to finalise Jake O’Brien signing from Lyon
Fabrizio Romano (27 July) revealed that O’Brien will undergo his medical on Monday ahead of his £16m move to Everton.
Sean Dyche continues his busy start to the transfer window and now brings fresh competition to centre-back pairing James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite.
The Irish international will be expected to compete for a starting berth alongside the club’s preferred pairing rather than replace them, despite Manchester United’s pursuit of Branthwaite.
Ben Godfrey has already left Goodison Park this summer for Atalanta and Mason Holgate is the next on the list of potential departures.
The Blues are now in a healthier financial position following the big-money sale of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa for £50m and now focus on building a side capable of climbing the Premier League table.
At 6ft 6in tall, O’Brien possesses all the physical attributes required to be successful in the English top flight and to a side that scored 19 goals from set-pieces last season.
Everton had a formidable defence in the league last year with only Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City conceding fewer goals than the Blues.
Dyche is adding fresh faces to an ageing Everton side as the club aims for a strong final season at Goodison Park.
