Midfielder tempted as Everton line up another brand new transfer - report

Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis is tempted by a move to Everton this summer, according to O Jogo.

The newspaper reported via their print edition [6 July, page 18] that although nothing is being negotiated as yet, Luis could end up at Goodison Park.

The likes of Fulham and Leicester are also said to be of interest to the defensive midfielder so Sean Dyche would likely have a battle on his hands to acquire his services.

Why Florentino Luis would be an ideal coup for Everton

Although the Toffees have both James Garner and Amadou Onana who can play in defensive midfield, Luis would be an ideal addition to the Merseyside club’s squad.

Especially if Onana departs this summer like has been linked to doing all summer so far.

Should the Belgium international stay, there would be a fight to see who gets to partner him week-in and week-out but, his addition would no doubt add some quality to the depth of their squad.

Although Everton’s starting 11 is fairly strong across the board, when players are ruled out due to injury or suspension, their depth is fairly minimal.

Luis would be yet another young player who would form the Toffees’ midfield.

But, this just means that he will have plenty of room to develop further and perhaps blossom like Onana.

He currently plies his trade for Benfica and played a whopping 45 games across all competitions and was among the club’s best performers.

And, as Benfica only want £34 million for a move to occur [Correio de Manha, 31 May, Page 11] it feels like he would be a solid addition.

In other Everton news, the Toffees may have found their Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacement should the striker depart this summer.
